Most children start school at the start of the school year following their fourth birthday. They can't start school before this. Unless you decide to educate your child at home, your child must start school by the school term following their fifth birthday.

You can apply for a primary or infant school place starting school in September 2025 for a child born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021.

Date	Activity
1 September 2024	Main application period opens.
15 January 2025	Main application period closes. You can make an application after this date, but it will be a late application. Late applications are not considered until all on-time applications have been considered and allocated.
10 March 2025	Deadline to submit a change of address for consideration.
17 April 2025	Offer day. You will receive your offer of a primary school place.
28 April 2025	​Deadline day for accepting an offer.
